The network has been commercially active since March 16th 2007. In January 2008 after less than 10 months PLAY reached its first 1 million clients. By the end of 2009 there will be over 3 million clients making use of PLAY’s services.
PLAY is the quickest – developing mobile phones network in Poland, with the most investments on the Polish market concerning building a modern telecommunications infrastructure. PLAY’s clients are using the range of their own 3G network covering almost 60% of the population and a 2G network covering 80% of the population.
PLAY has the most competitive offer on the subscription services market (ONE PLAY), pre-paid market (PLAY FRESH) and the mix (PLAY MIXTURA) and since July 2008 also one of the most beneficial wireless internet access offers both in Poland and in Europe – the PLAY ONLINE. PLAY also has special solutions dedicated for small business / the FIRMOWA subscription, in its offer
The appeal of PLAY’s offer is being emphasised by the media, market analysts and the Office of Electronic Communications in its annual reports, in which since the very beginning of its commercial presence on the market, PLAY has been in the position of an unquestionable leader. Similarly, PLAY turns out to be the best concerning the process of moving phone numbers – in May 2009 about 65% of the clients who changed their network moved their numbers to PLAY.
Chairman Jorgen Bang-Jensen in an interview for the Reuters agency pointed – “If we look into the future, we do have the ambition to become a two-digits operator, meaning one with an over 10% share in the market, perhaps even 15-20%. This is the plan we intend to carry out (...) in 2011-2012. To get 10% of the market we need to service 4,5-5 million clients.”
PLAY’s services are available in 850 salons throughout the country and the pre-paid services in over 100 thousand retail points in Poland.
The PLAY network is being managed by the P4 Sp. z o.o. company.
P4 looks after children's safety in the Internet
P4 has entered into the „Agreement for the safety of children in the Internet” – a joint initiative of internet providers, private companies specialising in internet security and national administration units - originated by TP Group. Amongst the signatories are: ArcaBit, the Dzieci Niczyje Foundation, the Kidprotect.pl Foundation, the Orange Foundation, the General Inspector for Personal Data Protection, Interia.pl, NASK, the Polish Chamber of Information Technology and Telecommunications, Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa, the Polish Internet Research, PTK Centertel, Telekomunikacja Polska, UPC Poland, Wirtualna Polska and the Office of Electronic Communication. The fundamental aim of the “Agreement” is to create a coalition for educating parents, guardians and children using the Internet on the threats of using the network, as well as the ways of eliminating those threats.
“The agreement is a good initiative, since besides its educational-informational aspects, it also proposes simple solutions that will make it possible for parents and guardians to report disturbing content which is a threat to the safety of children in the Internet. It is essential that the majority of the leading operators got involved in this initiative, since it guarantees the dissemination of the idea of safe Internet and improvement of customer awareness with regards to the threats present in the network." - said Jørgen Bang-Jensen, the chairman of P4, operator of the PLAY network.
“Already there are three leading players of the mobile phones market amongst the signatories of the "Agreement": PTK Centertel, P4 and PTC. I am extremely pleased with the fact that this TP Group’s initiative was met with such enthusiasm. This proves that the largest companies of the ICT sector are aware of the needs of their clients concerning the education and communication in the area of Internet security, which is particularly significant when taking into account the widespread use of the most modern technologies by young children.” – commented Maciej Witucki, the chairman of the Telekomunikacja Polska Group.
The official "Agreement" website is currently under construction. Meanwhile PLAY's company website will soon provide a link to a form that can be used for reporting illegal content in the Internet.
